Parent tips for different emotions

HAPPY

Happiness can make the body feel full of energy, the face stretch into wide smiles, and giggles come easily. It's a wonderful feeling to notice, name, and celebrate, helping children build confidence and emotional awareness.

Supporting children identify and name emotions

Tips for Parents

🌟 Name the Emotion
Help your child recognize happiness by saying things like:
"You look really happy! I see your big smile and hear your laughter."

🌟 Celebrate the Moment
Share in the joy! Laugh, dance, or do something silly together to build strong, positive memories linked to feeling happy.

🌟 Talk About What Caused It
Gently ask:
"What made you feel so happy?"
This helps kids connect events to emotions and builds emotional understanding.

Bonus Tip:

If happiness becomes over-excited:

  • Try slow, deep breathing together.

  • Suggest a quiet moment, a snuggle, or a story to calm happy energy without shutting it down.
